The Hip Unit at the Wellington Hospital cares for patients with a wide range of disorders of the hip, including sports injuries, arthritis, fractures and conditions arising from previous hip surgery.

Treatment is tailored to the needs of the individual patient and a full range of surgical options are available, including hip arthroscopy, hip replacement and hip resurfacing, as well as complex revision procedures.

We have at the moment three operating theatres, one with a laminar flow system which is specifically required for major joint replacements. We have, through outside agencies, access to the most up to date equipment in the country and we are able to provide when required.

Our Hip Unit surgeons are dedicated to providing the highest possible standards of quality care and do so with the support of the excellent team of orthopaedic theatre nurses. The procedures carried out range from conventional total hip replacement, to minimal invasive procedures, including hip arthroscopy, replacement and hip resurfacing.

Patients undergoing Hip replacement surgery can now benefit from the possibility of having a minimal invasive procedure, as opposed to conventional replacement surgery. The benefits of this include, less post-operative pain, smaller incision, quicker mobilisation post op and reduced hospital stay.
